Louisiana State Treasurer, John Schroder
As Louisiana State Treasurer, John Schroder oversees cash management of $64.8 billion dollars on behalf of the citizens of Louisiana. After serving 9 and-a-half years in the State Legislature, he was elected Treasurer in 2017 and re-elected in 2019. Under John’s guidance, more than $279 million in Unclaimed Property has been returned to its rightful owners.
He works daily toward a better future for Louisiana through trusted stewardship, smart investment, and bold innovation. As Chair of the State Bond Commission, John believes government must be transparent and manage its money like you manage your businesses and households.
He is a former CID special agent in the United States Army and narcotics detective. For the past 30 years, John has worked alongside his wife, Ellie, in various businesses; most notably in real estate, homebuilding, and development.
His favorite time of year is Mardi Gras, and he is a veteran of more than 45 different parades around the state. In fact, the colors of the State Treasury Unclaimed property division reflect his love of the spirit of Mardi Gras.
The Treasurer has been a member of countless service and charitable organizations from Rotary to veterans groups and also serves as a member of more than 35 state boards and commissions.

Treasurer Schroder is a graduate of East Jefferson High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. Above all, he is a husband of 38 years, father of two, and an incredibly proud Pawpaw to four grandchildren.
