Steve Whitlow has lived in Central since he married Sharon Starkey Whitlow in 1994. Sharon and Steve have three children, Jackson, Sam and Sarah and a son-in-law, Austin. The Whitlows are active parishioners at St. Alphonsus Church.

Steve has been practicing law since 1992, and has been assisting corporate and individual clients primarily in the fields of defense litigation, corporate law and succession litigation. He practiced for approximately 20 years with Keogh, Cox in Baton Rouge.

In 2014, Steve took leave from the practice of law to found Gateway Transition Center, a non-profit organized to assist young adults on the autism spectrum. Gateway Ink, a screen print t-shirt shop, was formed to provide employment related services for autistic adults in 2015. In 2018, Gateway’s programs were assumed by a national non-profit organization, Merakey, and Steve served as the Director of Transition Services for the company.

In April 2022, he joined his wife at Whitlow & Simmons to serve as “Of Counsel“ for the firm.

During his career, Steve has served on numerous boards and committees on the local, state, and national level. Steve served on the School Board, Adult Formation Committee and Confirmation team at St. Alphonsus Church. He also serves as a Board Member for the Capital Area Autism Network and Central City Autism Awareness. He is a member of the Community Advisory Board for the Psychology Department at Franciscan University and a volunteer mentor at Franciscan High School. On the state level, Steve was appointed to the Statewide Independent Living Council. Finally, Steve is a Public Member of the Federal Government Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee, housed within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
